Year of Public Art

Year of Public Art

The Beverly Area Arts Alliance and Alderman Matt O’Shea spearheaded the 19th Ward’s participation in the City of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Event’s (DCASE) Year of Public Art. With the input of a volunteer committee of local residents, business owners, and civic representatives, artist Davis McCarty was selected to create a new piece of public art for the neighborhood. “Quantum Me” is an inspirational light bending sculpture that engages the public with iridescent colors. The project is funded by the City of Chicago’s 50×50 Neighborhood Arts Initiative and the 19th Ward.

A celebratory unveiling of the sculpture will be held Saturday, May, 19th, 5:30pm including DCASE Commissioner Mark Kelly, 19th Ward Alderman Matt O’Shea, Davis McCarty, and our community partners. A festive block party will follow featuring the exhibit Brian Ritchard: New Paintings, musical guest Sheryl Youngblood, brews from Horse Thief Hollow and Open Outcry, and food trucks.
