Still A Constant Struggle: an Exhibition in Two Parts
The legacy of slavery in America has had a profound and lasting effect on the structures and culture of our society as well as the wellbeing of generations of Black Americans in all aspects of life. In Still a Constant Struggle, six Chicago artists working in a variety of mediums, bravely explore and interrogate the brutal history and violent legacy of slavery in America with resilience and humanity. Through painting, collage, quilting, ceramics, assemblage, and poetry, the artists featured here seek to challenge viewers to look critically at our histories, society, communities and ourselves to determine how we can create a more just and peaceful nation and world. The exhibits feature works by Jomo Cheatham, Malika Jackson, Tina Jenkins-Bell, Dawn Liddicoatt, Dorothy Straughter and Takako.
